SBA was pleased to welcome 145 players to the Holiday 2022 tournament representing 58 schools, and 15 clubs from across the region. The day witnessed record numbers of U17 boys, with some great energy and game play by all players, and some wonderful reunions of players. A salute and THANK YOU to ALL players for sharing the courts for our Holiday event.

A great day with some awesome game play – five (5) age categories and lots of play for all.

We were happy to welcome over 80 players to the courts for a chance to test their skills, challenge themselves and have some fun with their badminton friends on the courts.

Thirty-seven (37) Soong Badminton Academy players travelled together to attend the Casselman Junior tournament on March 1st. There was wonderful cheering and support during the many excellent matches, with the SBA girls rising early morning to support the boys, and the SBA boys remaining after their matches to cheer for, and support the girls.

Soong Badminton Academy players earned great results for their efforts, including 19 medals, and many 3/4 finishes.

SBA coaches Dominic Soong and Janet Hugli attended the tournament to provide coaching support to the team players.

A celebration dinner was held in Chinatown following the completion of the tournament with lots of great food.

A salute to all SBA players – great work on the courts, and great teamwork and teammate support from the sidelines.

Petawawa JUNIOR Open – December 14th, 2019

Forty-Five (45) SBA players travelled together via bus to Petawawa to participate in the Petawawa Garrison’s first Junior District ranking event.
Participants included players from ten (10) different clubs, including North Bay, Valley clubs, and other participants from Ottawa.
Highlights included a "candlelight" dinner during the black-out winter storm, and a secret Santa exchange en route home.
Excellent results from all SBA players, in all age groups.

Forty-Nine (49) SBA players travelled together via bus, to attend the BON Junior B Championships. While there were lots of nerves to be calmed at the start of the event, our SBA members demonstrated some great play as the tournament progressed.

SBA players earned 2 medals, 3 consolation wins, 5 consolation finalists, and lots of valuable experience.

A salute to all of our SBA team members for participating, who have demonstrated excellent progress throughout the year.

SBA coaches supporting the players at the tournament included: Dominic Soong, Janet Hugli, Victor Liang, Dulika Gamage, Emily Chen, Xinyan Lin.

Thank you to parent Albert Zhu for helping to transport early start Friday players to Scarborough on Thursday night.

Eighteen members of the SBA competitive team participated in the round robin action at the Casselman tournament hosted by the L'Escale badminton club on Sunday, March 23. Some excellent play and inspiring matches netted our SBA players with some great results. A big salute to all our SBA players who participated, and to the parents for providing transportation. Twenty Four (24) SBA players travelled together via bus to Aurora to the Machi BON #5B Ontario provincial event. There were some excellent matches, great game play and great efforts by all... with lots of support and cheering for our SBA team mates. Congratulations to all participating players who attended to gain experience, and to qualify for the BON championships.

Twenty Six (26) SBA players travelled to BOWMANNVILLE to the Port Hope BON #6B Ontario provincial event during the weekend of February 9/10. A big salute to all our SBA players for demonstrating positive court etiquette and good sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

Forty Six (46) players from across the Ottawa region joined together to share some great badminton fun on the courts before school ended for the summer. There was some great play, and inspired performances. Thanks to our Tournament Chairperson: Xinyan Lin.

Forty-Five (45) SBA players travelled together via bus to Scarborough, supported by five (5) SBA team coaches during the weekend of April 27-29 to compete with 293 other athletes from across Ontario in the 2018 BON championships. Twenty-One (21) SBA players participated in the CBL-Lescale junior tournament March 4th in Orleans, sweeping the U15 boys singles and U17 boys doubles events, with great results in all other categories.

Super results were earned by the Soong Badminton Academy competitive team members, who travelled together via bus to North Bay to participate in the BON #3 event.

There were inspiring performances by all our Soong players in all age categories who raised their games to compete with over a hundred players from across the province.

SBA results included: Twenty-three (23) medals, six (6) - 4th place finishes, four (4) - Consolation Winners, and eight (8) - Consolation Finalists.

Six (6) of our SBA players travelled to Toronto during the Thanksgiving weekend to compete in the first BON provincial "B" event of the season. Some great matches, and some strong play, along with some great experience.

Congratulations to Xavi Simpson & Ray Bao for their Boys’ Doubles U15 consolation victory.

Thirty five (35) members of the SBA competitive teams travelled together by bus with four (4) of our SBA team coaches, to compete with 243 athletes from across the province in the Ontario Provincial B Championships in Burlington during the weekend of April 28-30.

Thirty six (36) Soong Badminton Academy players, along with six (6) SBA team coaches travelled together via bus, to Toronto to compete in the Ontario Provincial Junior B championships. With 287 players representing 29 clubs from across Ontario, the SBA team was clearly the largest group…and the team that travelled the furthest. Despite the early morning departure, and the long journey, the SBA players produced solid performances in all age groups and all events.

The SBA competitive team members hosted 124 players in a series of tournament events which included six (6) different age groups at two (2) venues over three (3) days during March. Scorekeepers and umpires were made available for all U13 and U11 events held at the Maurice Lapointe HS, allowing the SBA team members to demonstrate their leadership and organizing skills, and the players to focus on their games.

124 players from 10 clubs from Deep River south to Cornwall shared the badminton courts at Ashbury College and the Turnbull School during the March 28/29 weekend for some great play, and an awesome warm up for the upcoming school regional play downs and the provincial championships.

Ninety six (96) players shared the courts at Turnbull School over the New Year holiday, in 16 events, in 6 age categories (including an open category) to challenge each other on the courts, and have some fun while wearing off all the holiday eating.

Twenty seven (27) members of the Soong Badminton Academy competitive teams travelled to Whitby on the weekend of December 6/7 to participate in their first "out station" trip of the season in the Ontario Competitive B series #5 event. Team members earned great results and were well recognized for their great play, for their team spirit, and for their great sportsmanship.

Thirty one (31) Ottawa area players representing five (5) regional clubs (SBA, Capital, Rockland, RA, CBJO) and nineteen schools from Kanata to Orleans - enjoyed a great day of badminton competition on the school PD day - hosted by members of the SBA Competitive Girls' team at the Turnbull School.

There was lots of exciting game play, with many close games, and a few "upsets" during the playoff rounds.

Soong Badminton Academy Players bring home medals in twelve (12) events at Ontario Provincial Junior B/C Championships in Toronto — April 6/7, 2013

Thirty One (31) Soong Badminton Academy players travelled together to compete in the 2013 Ontario 2013 Provincial B Championships in Toronto, earning excellent results, and strong accolades for their performances in all age categories and all events.

Gold medals were earned by Soong Badminton Academy players in four (4) events, Silver medals in three (3) events, five (5) finishes for 3 / 4 positions, and five (5) consolation wins... with a sweep of all the medals in the U16 girls' events. Congratulations to all Soong Badminton Academy players.

Soong Badminton Academy (SBA) players earned exceptional results at the recent regional tournaments, with the SBA being recognized and saluted by all clubs across the region for our exceptional player development.

• Elementary Board Finals (grades 7/8) Girls: Sweep of ALL medals by current Soong players!!!

• Independent School Championships: Soong golds for both boys & girls
• National Capital Secondary School Athletic Association (NCSSAA) Championships: Over 80% of all finalists in all events were represented by Soong players/alumni players
• ODBA District Championships: Over 80 Soong Badminton Academy players participated in the championships, with SBA team members & alumni members earning ALL gold medals in ALL age categories, in ALL events except for 2 of the medals!!!! ...Along with excellent results for silver, bronze & consolation wins.

ODBA Junior awards for Athletes of the 2007-2008 Season were announced at the Fall AGM of the ODBA. Six (6) of our SBA players were saluted in their respective age categories.
